Those two positive Hydrogen nuclei repel each other strongly, according to Coulomb's Law, and particles are nothing if not law-abiding. A composite particle containing an even number of fermions (such as the carbon−12 nucleus with 6 protons and 6 neutrons) is a boson — and an odd number of fermions (such as the helium−3 atom, with 2 protons, 1 neutron, and 2 electrons) will result in a fermion.
