It plays great with a classic "George Roberts" type sound. Originally, this horn started its life as a single valved Elkhart Conn 60H. I feel that they hold the center of the instrument together better and give a good balance of diffusion to vibrancy (while I sometimes feel that some open wraps sometimes contribute to an instrument sounding a bit thin... who knows if I'm right or not... probably not! haha) Regardless, most of my own large tenors are closed wraps and I find no significant resistance or stuffiness encountered on the valve side.
